Clayton Middle School is a school in Johnston County, North Carolina. It teaches students in grades 6-8, aging between 10–14 years old.

History

Clayton Middle School was built in 1991. When it opened the school had 600 students enrolled. By 2001, the number of students had nearly doubled to 1150 students, and had 18 mobile units on campus. In fall of 2001, Riverwood Middle School opened, and the students were divided between the schools. Each school had around 650 students. Currently, the school has approximately 720 students.

The current principal (2011-2012) is Stephen Baker.

The current principal is Stephen Baker. There are also two assistant principals: Leigh White and Jocell Flores. Past principals include Eddie Price and Deborah Woodruff.

Extracurricular activities

Clubs

Clayton Middle School has 15 organizations that students can join. These range from the Junior Beta Club to Jazz Band. Clayton Middle School has a Men of Distinction club, similar to the Men of Distinction at Clayton High School. They do community service work, and are taught to lead by example. The Yearbook Staff provides student input in to the making of the yearbook. There are also two clubs dealing with international relations: the Student Ambassadors and the Second Language club. The Second Language Club's members learn about the cultures of Germany, Italy, France, and Mexico, and Student Ambassadors learn more about the Spanish language.

Sports

Clayton Middle School has 8 sports teams that students can join. They are: Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Cheerleading, Basketball, Softball, Track, and Baseball. The soccer and basketball teams are divided by gender. Softball and volleyball are open only to girls. Baseball is offered only to boys. :)))
